New Look, Same Great Mission

The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina has adopted a new logo, marking the most dramatic change to its visual identity over 20 years. Using an updated version of the familiar dog and cat silhouettes, illustrations of a home and smiles and a warmer, more vibrant color family, the new logo better reflects values of the non-profit.

"Our new logo better communicates what the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina stands for today," said Executive Director Bethann Wilkie. "We've kept visual elements that reflect our past but we emphasized our forward-thinking mindset and objective to promote pet welfare, find homes for any animal we can, and bring happiness to the families of Eastern Carolina. Developed and donated by Evolve, Inc., the new logo presents the company as a modern entity, reflects the strength and direction of its brand, and underscores its commitment to the welfare of all pets in Eastern Carolina. The Humane Society’s tagline, “Until They Find a Home”, describes the organization’s mission, and is highlighted in the logo (see the cute little house in the cat!), which features the home that is the goal for every animal. Shelter Director Katie Benson emphasized the importance of modernizing the identity and how it will impact the future marketing efforts for the Human Society of Eastern Carolina. “The new logo is essential to continuing our recent success in helping to unite pets with their forever homes,” said Benson. “It will serve as a fantastic jumping-off point for the future of our organization as well as our brand.” In 2014, the Humane Society has reached new levels of success and is on track for nearly 600 adoptions, a 70% increase over 2013. But with greater success comes greater need. The organization is an independent nonprofit, receiving no funding from the Humane Society of the United States or other agencies. Adoption fees do not cover the shelter’s operating expenses, and donors as well as adopters and volunteers are needed to enable the organization to continue its lifesaving mission.
