Linus

The Beagle Boy

Linus' first night in his new home.

Humane Society of East Carolina,

It's been 9 months since I traveled two hours from Chapel Hill, NC to introduce my girl beagle to Linus, my future boy beagle.  In this time, Linus has been started on a yearly health plan through Banfield (located inside every PETsMART) that includes two comprehensive exams a year, all of his necessary vaccinations, some 'extra' vaccinations, and a yearly teeth cleaning.  I'm not sure if you all remember since it's been a few months, but Linus also had dew claws on his hind legs which were removed out of fear that he'd rip them off at some point during play.  He's gained a few pounds but I think he was meant to be long and skinny.  He STILL chews his leg (remember everyone being puzzled about what, if anything was on his leg?).  Well, the doctors here felt the same and suggested that he might be so used to chewing on it that he does it, which irritates it, which makes him chew on it more.  A vicious cycle!  We're still working on that.

Now that I've gotten all of the technical talk out of the way, I will talk about Linus' personality, the niche he's made in my home, and what he means to me.  Anita told me when I first began asking questions about him that Linus loves to cuddle.  I knew my girl loved attention, but Linus has well surpassed her in that department!  It is so funny because if she is next to me getting attention, he will actually nudge his way in between me and her!  I think Linus is still soaking it all up and feels like it's HIS turn to receive the attention, since my girl has been around for a while.  He has the prettiest smile and people are instantly attracted to him and his LONG ears.  He is quiet and rarely barks although my girlfriend has taught him how to 'speak'.  He can also sit, lie down, and roll over, so he's obviously very intelligent.  He always insists on sleeping next to me at night and I joke all the time that he is me in the dog world and my girl is my girlfriend in the dog world.  Like me, when he lies down, he'll stay in the same spot the whole night, while my girl and girlfriend move around.  He's always so excited to see me when I come home that he can barely contain himself.  And, although they are both attention hounds, both dogs get along extremely well together.  I think both of them being together is great for both of them...I wish I could've recorded the first time they played together and sent it to you all...I knew then that I'd made the right decision.  Thank you so much for all of your help last November.  I hope that at some point, I can bring him back so you all can see him in person and how good he looks!  Until then, please see the attached pictures of him and my girl (Bea).

Thanks,
C.J.
