A Tribute to Nestle

A Good Friend

Nestle kicking back on her loveseat.

Dear PCHS Friends,

This is just a note of thanks to all at PCHS for giving me the chance to be the friend and companion of “Nestle”.  For the past two years, Nestle and I have been best buddies.  She settled into my home right away, jumping up on the couch almost as soon as she arrived.  That loveseat was hers for the next two years and she would share it with others only if they promised to keep stroking her head while they occupied her premises.

Nestle was a sweet ole hound/lab mix who looked like a lab but acted like a hound.  She loved to chase squirrels and was quite good at pointing.  She’d start “crying” as soon as she got outdoors and smelled nature’s wonderful scents.  Such behavior caused me to sing to her (with great affection),

“You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog cryin’ all the time.  You ain’t never caught a rabbit (squirrel) and you ain’t no friend of mine.”  (Which, of course, was not true.)

I’d also sing the Nestle chocolate jingle to her which, I believe, she found annoying.  But, she listened patiently.

“N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestle’s makes the very best CHAAACCCCCCLATE.”

Nestle was about 10 years when I adopted her.  Her health began to fail last summer and she struggled with breathing and neurological problems for the next year.  But she never lost her “sweet spirit.” I was with her when she was put to sleep on July 10.  Her favorite Doc, Eileen Whitten, was with us.

To all of you who knew and loved Nestle and who gave her such great care – Thank You!

Love,

Chris Carlin
