A Success Story

Sherlock Update - September 5, 2003

Sherlock's new family came and picked him up today at the Humane Society.  Talk about a HAPPY DOG and a HAPPY FAMILY!  Sherlock's new family members are Stephen, Terri and John Alexander.  As you can see, everyone here is all smiles!  They promised to keep us updated on how Sherlock is doing - so we'll keep things updated here.

Sherlock is a male hound mix with a will to live that just won't quit. He was found on the side of the road - just barely skin and bones with an abscess the size of a orange on his neck. He was treated by the vet with subcutaneous fluids and antibiotics and began to show improvement. His front right leg was broken and healed improperly (prior to his rescue) so it is bent slightly at the ankle. It doesn't appear to give him any trouble as he is getting around on it pretty well. This fella just had a will to go on - and he continues to do better each day.

As you can see in the picture taken on May 8, every one of Sherlock's ribs are visible and he is quite intimidated by people and what is going on around him.  At this point he had improved greatly from when he was taken in at the Humane Society, but still had quite a ways to go.

In the July 1 picture Sherlock has visibly gained weight, his coat is much shinier and healthy and he is wagging his tail and interacting with humans the way a dog should - happily.  Sherlock has come a long way and will continue to do better with each passing day with the loving care he is receiving.

Sherlock looks amazing in the July 17, 2003 picture.  His coat is sleek and glossy and just begs to be touched.  He had no problems with coming out and interacting with us to take his picture.  He is a new dog!
